How to install W2K/XP with Controller Card issues using Bing |
1) Have the partition you're installing to ready to
go (formatted/blank, or
with an OS installed). Have all partitions you wish to have visible in XP,
set that way in BING.
2) Shutdown the computer and move the hard drive that partition is on to the
Primary IDE channel on the motherboard. You can leave your other hard
drives attached to the Maxtor card, and leave the card in the machine.
3) Boot with a Startup Disk (via BING) if doing a clean install, or boot the
OS you're upgrading.
4) Run XP setup as desired (clean or upgrade).
5) Once setup is complete, open Explorer and see if all your
drives/partitions are visible. If so, skip to step # 8
6) Open Device Manger. Look in Other devices for the Mass Storage
Controller. Get its Properties and update the driver, using the diskette
provided by Maxtor. You can ignore any unsigned driver warnings.
7) Reboot the computer and see that all desired drives/partitions are listed
and visible in Explorer.
8) Start Regedit, and delete all the values (except Default) in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices (I put this step in, just to be
on the safe side).
9) Shut down the computer, and move the hard drive you installed XP on, to
the IDE1 connector on the Maxtor card. Reconnect CD's to the motherboard if
needed.
10) Reboot the computer and all desired drives/partitions should be visible
and accessible in Explorer. You may get New Hardware detected, and
instructed to reboot. If so, do so.
